The God of Moses
I was for many years a research assistant for Prof. Bezalel Bar-Kochva, working primarily on the philosophical background to his analysis of Hellenistic Greek authors who wrote, purportedly, on the Jews. I have recently come across an old version (2007) of an account which became an appendix in Bar-Kochva’s 2010 book, The Image of the Jews in Greek Literature.
The short piece ranges from Posidonian physics, to Strabo’s philosophical views, to problems in textual transmission.
I have left the text as I found it, with misprints and an absence of notes. A corrected text with notes is to be found in the actual book, a link to which I have added in the downloadable pdf.
